How we got here: 48 Conservative MPs submitted letters demanding a vote to the 1922 Committee, the group that represents all Conservative MPs in the House of Commons.

When's the vote? Wednesday evening -- with ballots counted immediately and result announced as soon as possible, according to Graham Brady, the MP who chairs the committee.

Leadership in the balance: If she survives, May would be immune from another challenge for a year, according to party rules. If she loses, she's out.
